10 Principles for Carnivale

10 Principles

This event is created in line with the 10 Principles. The below outlines how the event meets each of the principles.

Radical Inclusion
This is an all ages event open to all participants.

Gifting
Carnivàle is a gift from Victoria Burners to their friends, family, and community members. Your contribution is what makes it happen.

Decommodification
This event is not financially profiting anyone. We are raising funds to support an outdoor event featuring interactive art in late June 2009 near Shawnigan Lake. The carnival fundraiser will generate the operating capital to help produce this summer event. To ensure public accountability, a statement of income and expenses will be available from this website after the event.

Radical Self-reliance
Each of us creates our own resources to bring to this event and contribute to the whole.

Radical Self-expression
The Carnivàle is a place to express yourself freely. Create, perform, and bring the carnival to life!

Communal Effort
The success of this event relies on the contributions of everyone. We work together as a community to create dreams.

Civic Responsibility
We value our community and take an active role in helping it to grow. To plan this event and take part in shaping its direction, you need to attend a planning meeting! For information on planning, please contact Ashes. Also, take a look at the records of past meetings:

Leaving No Trace
When this event is over, we pledge to leave the location as good or better than we found it. Taking care of it is everyone's responsibility.

Participation
This is a participation mandatory event. Everyone has an equal share in participation. There is NO GUEST LIST. Everyone from the event organizers to the performing artists, through to the rest of participants is asked to support their community by paying for a ticket. "Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions that open the heart."

Immediacy
Just breathe. In, out. Ok, you're here now. Let's go to the Carnivàle!
