pARTicipate!
Otherworld is a 100% participant sponsored, participant created event.
What does that mean? It means that Otherworld is whatever you make it. Costs have been kept to an absolute minimum so that anyone can come, and we hope everyone will pARTicipate by bringing something they can give from the heart. There are as many ways to pARTicipate as there are people, but here are some suggestions:
- Volunteer
- Offer a workshop/game/activity
- Bring a theme camp
- Create art
- Perform
- Offer your car for carpooling
- Do Your Thing (Gifting)
Volunteer
To get Otherworld off the ground, we need all sorts of people to volunteer. Every participant at Otherworld should consider working at least one shift as a volunteer. It is easy, fun, and a great way to help Otherworld!
- Be an Otherworld Ranger
- Help us Leave No Trace
- Greet people at the Gate
- Perform fire dance
- Set up Otherworld (DPW)
- Perform first aid
Offer a workshop/game/activity
Do you have skills, knowledge, a game, or activity to share? Great - bring it to Otherworld! We're going to set up a wiki so that you can tell everyone about it through this website. Some ideas are: yoga, arts & crafts, rope bondage, drumming, fire dancing, fire safety, underwater basket weaving, and more!
Put the following information up on the What Where When Wiki! [WWWwiki]
- What is the activity called?
- When will the activity happen? (date & time)
- How will I FIND the activity? (where is it?)
- What do I need to bring?
Do you need some help making your activity happen? Send an e-mail out through the BurnVic e-mail list, and/or apply for a pARTicipation Grant!

Bring a theme camp
Otherworld is yours to create, and one of the best ways to do that is to gather together a group of friends and create a theme camp. Usually theme camps are spaces decorated with a specific theme where people gather for some kind of PLAY! What kinds of play? Click here to find out more, including details on how you can get a pARTicipation grant!

Create art
One of the most amazing things you can bring to Otherworld is visual art, and it is a big part of why Otherworld exists. If you want to create art, big or small, click here for details, including details on how you can get a pARTicipation grant! (performance artists, see below!)
[BRING ART]
Perform
Event ticket prices are kept low so that you [and maybe some friends?] can bring your art and performance art! Performance can be the best way to bring a gift to Others. Bring a stage, bring a performance, bring your sound system, bring your hula hoops, bring yourself!
If you want to perform, read over the What Where When Wiki (coming soon) and see if there is an event you want to take part in (for example, you are a DJ and there is a party happening, contact the people involved via the Wiki and offer to DJ!) . If not, come up with something of your own and put it on the Wiki! Questions? E-mail ashes@csto.org.
[NOTE: Due to safety concerns, fire dance will only be allowed in designated places and times. Click here to sign up as a fire performer!]
Offer your car for carpooling
Please carpool! There isn't a lot of space for vehicles in Otherworld, so if you have a car and can give people a ride, please share your resource through the carpool wiki!

Do Your Thing (Gifting)
None of the above seem to be the kind of thing you would like to do to pARTicipate? That's ok, they're just suggestions - do whatever strikes your fancy! The point is to bring some kind of gift to others. Maybe you will cook breakfast for your neighbours. Maybe you will give out massages. Maybe you will create an amazing piece of wearable art and give it away. Maybe you will simply be an open mind to someone who needs it. Want some more inspiration? Here's a story from someone who attended Burning Man (one of the events that inspired Otherworld) and how he found his own way to participate.
